Music Rights

“Don’t Poke The Bear” If I heard this once in my life, I heard it at least thousands of times. The thought was to not mess with things that bring unneeded attention to you. Music rights aren’t controlled by the artists or even their representatives. There are companies that file copyright claims on content THEY don’t own on “behalf” of the artists. These artists aren’t even aware they exist.

“Can’t we just ignore them?” The answer is NO. They have convinced social media outlets, such as YouTube, that they have a claim on a certain song even when they don’t. They then try to collect royalities “on behalf of the artists.” We don’t know if an artist EVER sees any of that money.

“What can you do?” Contact your social media representative and have them contact YouTube and tell them the ONLY person that can claim anything on YOUR behalf is who you designate. Otherwise, these companies are ripping you off.

Thanks,

Rob
