A Perfect Circle — “Starless”

A Perfect Circle does not release music casually.

The band prefers to disappear for a while, allow everyone to wonder what is happening and then suddenly place something dark, precise and mildly unsettling in the room.

“Starless” arrived as a surprise shortly before A Perfect Circle began its first United Kingdom and European tour in eight years.

Written by Maynard James Keenan and Billy Howerdel, the song features longtime collaborator Josh Freese on drums. It moves between muscular guitar passages and quieter, more intricate moments without making either side feel like preparation for the other.

Howerdel has explained that some songs require years of adjustment, while others seem to arrive almost fully formed. “Starless” belonged to the second category, taking shape quickly after being written earlier in 2026.

That immediacy does not make the song feel unfinished. It gives it tension.

A Perfect Circle has always understood how to create space without making music feel empty. The quiet sections do not reduce the power of the heavier moments. They make the impact more severe when it arrives.

The single may also be the beginning of something larger. Howerdel has indicated that the band is working toward additional new music.

We will avoid demanding a deadline.

Standing too close to A Perfect Circle while repeatedly asking, “Is it done yet?” feels medically inadvisable.
