About
Geneviève Alison Jane Ballard, known professionally as Alison Moyet, emerged as one of Britain's most distinctive voices in the early 1980s. Born in Basildon, Essex, in 1961, to a French father and English mother, she catapulted to mainstream prominence in 1982 as one half of the synth-pop duo Yazoo (known as Yaz in North America) alongside Vince Clarke, former member of Depeche Mode. Following her breakthrough with Yazoo, Moyet has established an enduring solo career spanning decades. All ten of her studio albums and three compilation albums have charted in the UK Albums Chart's top 30, with two reaching the coveted number one position. She has also secured multiple top-10 hits on the UK singles chart, cementing her status as a consistently successful recording artist. Her body of work stands as a testament to her artistry and the lasting impact of her extraordinary voice on popular music.
