About
Andrew Maurice Gold was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter who shaped the Los Angeles pop and soft rock sound of the 1970s. His career flourished as both a session musician and recording artist, with his virtuosity heard on countless records by other artists, most notably Linda Ronstadt. Gold achieved his own commercial breakthrough with the U.S. top 40 hits "Lonely Boy" (1977) and "Thank You for Being a Friend" (1978), establishing himself as a clever craftsman of sumptuous soft rock. He also found international success with "Never Let Her Slip Away" (1978), which reached the UK top five. Gold passed away in 2011, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of musical artistry.
Throughout his career, Gold demonstrated remarkable versatility as both a performer and producer, contributing to the sound that defined an era of popular music. His creative partnership extended into the 1980s when he formed the British-American superduo Wax alongside Graham Gouldman of 10cc, achieving further chart success on the international stage. Gold's catalog of work, spanning songwriting, arranging, and multi-instrumental performance, reflected an artist deeply committed to musical excellence and innovation. His influence remains evident in the soft rock and pop traditions he helped establish, with his most celebrated songs continuing to resonate with audiences long after their initial release.
