Archie Roach was an Australian singer-songwriter and Aboriginal activist who emerged as a powerful voice in Indigenous music. Born Archibald William Roach, he brought authenticity and emotional depth to his craft, drawing from his heritage as a Gunditjmara and Bundjalung elder. His breakthrough came with the release of "Charcoal Lane" in 1990, an album that established him as a significant artist in the Australian music landscape. Working alongside his wife and musical partner Ruby Hunter, Roach developed a distinctive style that resonated with audiences while remaining true to his cultural roots and artistic vision.
