Billy Idol
About
William Michael Albert Broad, known professionally as Billy Idol, is an English rock singer who emerged from the vibrant London punk rock scene of the 1970s as the dynamic lead singer of Generation X. His commanding presence and distinctive style helped define the era, but it was his transition to a solo career that would cement his place in rock history. Following his departure from Generation X, Idol embarked on a solo journey that would ultimately lead to international recognition, transforming him into a major force during the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" in America during the 1980s.
Billy Idol's solo discography spans seven studio albums beginning with Don't Stop in 1981 and continuing through his 1982 self-titled album Billy Idol and the landmark Rebel Yell in 1983, followed by Whiplash Smile, Charmed Life, Cyberpunk, and Devil's Playground. His prolific output across studio recordings, live albums, compilation albums, and numerous singles demonstrates his sustained creative drive and connection with audiences worldwide. Through decades of recording and performing, Idol has left an indelible mark on rock music, establishing himself as a defining voice of his generation and a crucial figure in the evolution of rock during one of its most transformative periods.
