Carol Douglas is an American singer born on April 7, 1948, who rose to prominence during the early days of disco. In 1974, she was discovered through an unconventional route when label vice president and producer Eddie O'Loughlin spotted an advertisement for vocalists in Showbiz magazine and enlisted her to record an American version of the UK hit "Doctor's Orders." Her rendition became a pioneering disco track that introduced audiences to her distinctive vocal style, earning her a five-year contract with Midland International Records.
Douglas's version of "Doctor's Orders" achieved remarkable commercial success, climbing to No. 2 on the Billboard disco chart, No. 9 on the R&B chart, and No. 11 on the Hot 100, while also reaching No. 4 in France. This breakthrough single established her as a significant voice in the emerging disco movement and remains a defining moment in the genre's history.
