About

Artis Leon Ivey Jr., known professionally as Coolio, emerged from the West Coast hip-hop scene as a member of the gangsta rap group WC and the Maad Circle before launching a successful solo career. His breakthrough arrived with the release of "Fantastic Voyage" in 1994, establishing him as a distinctive voice in rap music. Coolio's style and charisma helped bring hip-hop to a wider, more mainstream audience, earning him recognition as a transformative figure in the genre during the mid-1990s.

Coolio's most iconic achievement came with "Gangsta's Paradise" in 1995, a Grammy Award-winning single that became his signature work and one of the most memorable rap songs of the decade. Throughout his career, he delivered other notable hits including "1, 2, 3, 4" and "C U When You Get There," while releasing nine studio albums. His first three albums, It Takes a Thief, Gangsta's Paradise, and My Soul, achieved substantial mainstream success, and he ultimately sold 4.8 million albums in the United States, cementing his legacy as a significant contributor to hip-hop history.
