Daryl Hall
About
Daryl Hall was an American rock and soul singer-songwriter best known as the co-founder and principal lead vocalist of Hall & Oates, the legendary duo he formed with guitarist and songwriter John Oates. Born Daryl Franklin Hohl, he became one of the most distinctive voices in popular music, blending rock sensibility with soulful vocal delivery. Hall passed away in 2024. Beyond his monumental work with Hall & Oates, he established himself as a solo artist of considerable range, releasing six albums that showcased his versatility and artistic ambition, including notable collaborations with progressive rock visionary Robert Fripp on the 1980 album Sacred Songs.
Hall's creative reach extended far beyond his own recordings. His 1986 solo album Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine yielded his best-selling single, "Dreamtime," which climbed to number five on the Billboard Hot 100, while his collaborations with artists like Dusty Springfield produced international hits, including the UK Top 40 success "Wherever Would I Be." Beginning in late 2007, Hall created Live from Daryl's House, an innovative streaming television series in which he performed with fellow artists in intimate settings, blending songs from each artist's catalog. The show's format and accessibility made it a pioneering venture in artist-driven digital content, earning broadcast time on numerous cable and satellite channels and cementing his legacy as both a timeless performer and forward-thinking music entrepreneur.
