Born in Tampa, Florida, he began playing saxophone at age 11 and quickly developed a distinctive voice that would span multiple genres. Sanborn's breakthrough came with his debut solo album, Taking Off, released in 1975, which established him as a major artist in his own right. His unique style blended jazz with instrumental pop and R&B, creating a sound that appealed to audiences across the musical spectrum. He passed away on May 12, 2024, in Tarrytown, New York, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of musical achievement.
