About
David Soul was an American-British actor and singer whose five-decade career made him a fixture of both television and music. He first gained prominence in the late 1960s, appearing as Joshua Bolt on the television series Here Come the Brides from 1968 to 1970. Soul's breakthrough moment came when he was cast as Detective Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson in the wildly popular American television series Starsky & Hutch, which aired from 1975 to 1979. Though acting brought him initial fame, Soul had always envisioned himself primarily as a musician, a passion that would soon translate into chart-topping success.
Soul's greatest musical achievement came with "Don't Give Up On Us," which became a US and UK number one hit. Beyond his recording career, he continued to work in film and television, taking the lead role in the 1979 TV movie Salem's Lot and appearing in films including the 1973 Magnum Force. His legacy spans multiple decades and mediums, representing an artist who successfully bridged the worlds of acting and music. Soul's journey from his early performances as the masked singer The Covered Man around 1966-1967 to international chart success demonstrates his enduring commitment to his craft and his impact on popular entertainment.
