Deborah Cox
About
Deborah Cox is a Canadian singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer whose career began in her native Toronto, where she performed in television commercials as a young child and participated in talent competitions throughout her teenage years. Before launching her solo career, Cox gained invaluable professional experience as a backing vocalist for Celine Dion. In 1994, she relocated to the United States and caught the attention of legendary music executive Clive Davis, who signed her to Arista Records. Her self-titled debut album arrived in 1995, introducing audiences to her distinctive vocal talents and marking the beginning of her remarkable journey in the music industry.
Cox's breakthrough moment came with her second studio album, One Wish (1998), which achieved platinum certification in the United States. The album's lead single, "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here," became a defining moment in her career, earning a coveted spot in pop history by peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and holding that position for an impressive eight consecutive weeks. This commercial triumph established Cox as a significant force in contemporary music. Following this success, she signed with J Records and continued her artistic evolution through subsequent projects including The Morning After (2002), Destination Moon (2007), and The Promise (2008), building a legacy as a prolific artist with more than a dozen albums to her name.
