Eric Andersen
About
Eric Andersen is an American folk music singer-songwriter whose gift for melody and lyrical depth has made him one of the most recorded artists in folk history. Emerging in the 1960s as part of the vibrant Greenwich Village folk scene, Andersen quickly established himself as a talented composer whose songs would be embraced by some of music's greatest interpreters. His early recordings for Vanguard Records, including Today Is the Highway and 'Bout Changes 'n' Things, introduced audiences to his distinctive voice and contemplative songwriting style. Over two decades, Andersen built a remarkable catalog of solo work across sixteen albums, crafting songs that resonated far beyond the folk community.
The reach of Andersen's songwriting extends across generations and genres, with his compositions recorded by Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Linda Ronstadt, the Grateful Dead, and Rick Nelson. His ability to capture profound human emotions in song has secured his place as a vital figure in American folk music. Later in his career, Andersen collaborated with bassist Rick Danko and guitarist Jonas Fjeld to form Danko/Fjeld/Andersen, which released two albums in the early 1990s. Through his prolific output and the enduring interpretations of his songs by countless artists, Andersen's influence on contemporary folk and singer-songwriter traditions remains deeply felt.
