About

Faith Renée Evans emerged as a defining voice in R&B during the 1990s, bringing sophistication and emotional depth to the genre. Born in Lakeland, Florida and raised in New Jersey, Evans relocated to Los Angeles in 1991 to pursue her musical dreams. She began her career as a backing vocalist for R&B artists Al B. Sure! and Christopher Williams before catching the attention of Sean Combs, who signed her to Bad Boy Records in 1994 as the label's first female artist at just 20 years old. Her breakthrough came swiftly with her 1995 debut album, Faith, which earned critical acclaim and established her as a rising talent in the contemporary R&B landscape.

Evans' influence on 1990s music extended far beyond her solo work. Her collaboration with 112 on Combs' 1997 single "I'll Be Missing You" became a cultural phenomenon, winning Best Rap Performance at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards and making history as the first hip hop song to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100. Her subsequent albums, Keep the Faith (1998) and Faithfully (2001), cemented her status as a critical favorite, peaking at number six and 14 on the Billboard 200 respectively. Over her career, Evans has released eight studio albums across Bad Boy Entertainment and Capitol Records, leaving an indelible mark on R&B and hip hop with her versatility and artistic integrity.
