Fancy
About
Fancy was a dance music artist whose journey to the spotlight was shaped by years of behind-the-scenes work in the music industry. Originally learning his craft as a producer in the German schlager style under the name Tess Teiges, he brought a rich foundation to everything he created. Along the way, he crossed paths with Jimi Hendrix in 1967 and made early demo tapes with the legendary Giorgio Moroder, experiences that clearly sharpened his artistic instincts. He also produced international projects with Claudia Field and Red Face through the mid-1970s before finally stepping into the spotlight himself with his breakthrough single "Slice Me Nice" in 1984. Fancy has since passed away, leaving behind a devoted following and a lasting place in dance music history.
Though Fancy never quite cracked the mainstream, his influence within the club scene was undeniable and deeply felt. He topped the Billboard Dance Chart three times, a remarkable achievement that spoke to his consistent command of the dancefloor. His 1985 single "Chinese Eyes," on which he served as both producer and singer, earned a coveted spot in the Top 10 of the Year on the US Billboard Dance Charts. His work during the mid- to late 1980s represented a high point in Eurodisco and club-oriented pop, and his careful, producer-minded approach gave his recordings a craftsmanship that resonated with fans and fellow artists alike. His catalog remains a warm and enduring chapter in the story of dance music.
