Jody Watley is an American singer, songwriter, and music producer whose career in entertainment began on the legendary television stage of Soul Train, where she danced from 1974 to 1977. In 1977, she took a pivotal step into music as part of the original lineup of Shalamar, an R&B group that also featured Jeffrey Daniel and lead vocalist Howard Hewett. With Shalamar, Watley helped craft some of the era's most memorable hits, including "The Second Time Around," "A Night to Remember," and "Dead Giveaway." Her work with the group established her as a vital force in R&B during the late 1970s and early 1980s, before she departed in 1983 to pursue a solo career.

Watley's solo journey proved equally impressive, building a substantial discography that includes nine studio albums and numerous singles that have solidified her place in music history.
