Kara Grainger

About

Kara Grainger is an Australian soul blues and roots rock singer-songwriter whose career took shape in the vibrant live music scene of her home country. Starting in 1994, she found her musical voice as a member of Papa Lips, a band that quickly earned recognition for their raw energy and authentic sound. The group's breakthrough came in 1998 when they received the "Best New Band" award at the Australian Blues Music Awards, a validation of their growing artistry. That same year, the band rebranded as Grainger, continuing to perform together until 2001 before Grainger embarked on her solo journey.

Building on the foundation established during her formative years in Australia, Grainger signed as a solo artist with Craving Records in 2006, marking a new chapter in her artistic evolution. Based now in Nashville, Tennessee, she has carved out a distinctive space in the soul blues and roots rock landscape, bringing the emotional depth and instrumental prowess that defined her earlier work to her solo recordings. Her journey from a celebrated ensemble performer to an independent artist reflects both her versatility and her commitment to the blues tradition that has shaped her distinctive voice.
