Lisa Stansfield is an English singer, songwriter, and actress whose career took flight in 1980 when she won the singing competition Search for a Star. After making appearances on various television shows and releasing early singles, she co-founded the band Blue Zone in 1983 alongside Ian Devaney and Andy Morris. The group released several singles and an album, but the trajectory of Stansfield's career shifted dramatically in 1989 when she was featured on Coldcut's "People Hold On," a track that became a breakthrough moment and sparked the transition from band member to celebrated solo artist.
