Lou Barlow was an American alternative rock musician and songwriter who helped shape the sound of independent rock across three decades. Born in Dayton, Ohio, Barlow began his musical journey in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he formed his first band, Deep Wound. He became a founding member of Dinosaur Jr., establishing himself as a key creative force in the alternative rock scene. Barlow passed away in 2024. Beyond his work with Dinosaur Jr., he co-founded both Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion, demonstrating his versatility across multiple projects and his restless creative spirit.

Barlow is widely credited with helping to pioneer the lo-fi style of rock music in the late 1980s and early 1990s, a movement that fundamentally changed how independent artists approached recording and production. His prolific output across Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and The Folk Implosion established him as one of the most influential figures in alternative rock history.
