About

Brian Hugh Warner, known professionally as Marilyn Manson, was an American rock musician who founded the band Marilyn Manson in 1989 and remained its only original member throughout his career. He passed away on January 5, 2024. The band's distinctive stage names combined the first name of American icon Marilyn Monroe with the last name of serial killer Charles Manson, reflecting their provocative artistic vision. After signing with Nothing Records and Interscope in 1993, Marilyn Manson released their debut studio album, "Portrait of an American Family," in 1994. Their breakthrough came with the 1995 EP "Smells Like Children," which featured a cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" and became a commercial triumph, selling over a million copies in the United States alone.

Throughout the 1990s, Marilyn Manson established themselves as a major force in rock music, releasing influential albums including "Antichrist Superstar" (1996) and "Mechanical Animals" (1998). These releases spawned memorable hit singles such as "The Beautiful People," "Tourniquet," "The Dope Show," and "Rock Is Dead," which showcased the band's distinctive industrial rock sound and theatrical approach to performance. Over his lifetime, Marilyn Manson released twelve studio albums, one live album, one compilation album, numerous extended plays, and 39 singles, cementing his legacy as a transformative figure in modern rock music who challenged conventions and pushed artistic boundaries throughout his career.
