Percy Robert Miller, known to the world as Master P, emerged as a defining force in hip hop during the mid-1990s. After founding No Limit Records in 1991, he built the label into a powerhouse that launched the careers of numerous artists and became synonymous with Southern rap. Master P's own breakthrough came through his work as a member of the hip hop groups TRU and 504 Boyz, alongside his solo endeavors. His fifth album, Ice Cream Man (1996), marked a turning point, establishing him as both a talented rapper and savvy businessman. The success of its lead single proved that Master P had found his signature sound within the landscape of West Coast and Southern hip hop fusion.
Master P's legacy is built on remarkable commercial success and artistic consistency across his fourteen studio albums. His 1997 single "Make 'Em Say Uhh!" achieved platinum certification from the RIAA, cementing his status as a chart-dominating force. From his early work on Get Away Clean (1991) through celebrated releases like Ghetto D (1997), Master P demonstrated an ability to craft music that resonated across audiences. Beyond recording, his entrepreneurial vision through No Limit Records and its spin-off labels shaped the business landscape of hip hop, proving that artists could control their own destinies while building something larger than themselves.
