Maxine Nightingale is a British R&B and soul singer born in 1952 who rose to prominence during the vibrant 1970s music scene. Her breakthrough came through an unexpected collaboration with Vincent Edwards, whom she had worked with in the West End production of Hair. Together they co-wrote "Right Back Where We Started From," a track that would define her career. Released on United Artists Records in 1975, the song climbed to No. 8 on the UK charts and eventually reached No. 2 on the U.S. charts, becoming a million seller and establishing Nightingale as a formidable talent in soul and R&B music.

Throughout the latter half of the 1970s, Nightingale continued to solidify her place in music history with a string of memorable hits. "Love Hit Me" arrived in 1977, followed by "Lead Me On" in 1979, both showcasing her distinctive vocal style and emotional depth. Her third album, Love Lines, released in 1978, further demonstrated her artistry across the UK and European markets. Nightingale's contributions to soul and R&B during this golden era remain a testament to her enduring talent and the timeless appeal of her music.
