She began her recording career in 1987 with "I Cram to Understand U (Sam)," but her breakthrough came the following year with her groundbreaking debut album, Lyte as a Rock, making her the first female rapper to release a full solo album. MC Lyte passed away in 2024. Her distinctive style and commanding presence on tracks like "10% Dis" and "Paper Thin" showcased her lyrical prowess and cemented her place in hip-hop history during its most formative years.
