Melissa Etheridge is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist whose distinctive voice and raw emotional power emerged from the underground music scene in the late 1980s. Her self-titled debut album, released in 1988, became an underground success and peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200. The album's lead single, "Bring Me Some Water," earned Etheridge her first Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female in 1989. That same year, she released her second album, Brave and Crazy, which garnered two additional Grammy nominations, establishing her as a significant new talent in rock music.
Over a prolific career spanning decades, Etheridge has released 18 studio albums and 43 singles across multiple record labels, including Island Records, Universal Music Group, ME Records, and BMG. Her breakthrough into mainstream success continued with her 1992 album Never Enough, whose lead single "Ain't It Heavy" won her first Grammy Award. Notable subsequent releases including Yes I Am (1993), Your Little Secret (1995), Breakdown (1999), and Skin (2001) solidified her legacy as a powerful voice in rock music. Through her extensive discography and consistent artistic output, Etheridge has maintained a lasting impact on the music industry.
