About

Steven Patrick Morrissey, known mononymously as Morrissey, was an English singer and songwriter born in Manchester in 1959. He came to prominence as the frontman and lyricist of the rock band The Smiths, which he co-founded with Johnny Marr in 1982. The band's influential run lasted until 1987, establishing Morrissey as a distinctive voice in alternative rock. His early musical career began in the late 1970s as a lead singer for punk bands before The Smiths' breakthrough. Morrissey passed away in 2023. His artistry was characterized by his distinctive baritone voice and innovative songwriting that explored themes of emotional isolation, sexual longing, self-deprecation, and dark humor, all delivered with an unmistakable anti-establishment perspective.

Following The Smiths' disbandment, Morrissey pursued a remarkably prolific and successful solo career, releasing 14 studio albums and 2 live albums. His work as a solo artist cemented his legacy as one of alternative rock's most influential figures. Throughout his decades-long career, Morrissey's distinctive approach to lyricism and vocal delivery left an indelible mark on popular music, influencing countless artists across multiple genres. His ability to blend vulnerability with wit, combined with his uncompromising artistic vision, established him as a pivotal figure in shaping the sound and sensibility of modern rock music.
