Mýa Marie Harrison was born in Washington D.C. and developed her artistic foundation through childhood training in ballet, jazz, and tap dance. She launched her career as a dancer on BET's Teen Summit before signing with University Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Her self-titled debut album arrived in 1998, introducing the world to her distinctive voice and style through the hit single "It's All About Me," which climbed into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. The early momentum continued with collaborative successes including "Ghetto Supastar" and "Take Me There," establishing her as a rising force in contemporary R&B and pop music.

Throughout her career, Mýa evolved into a multifaceted artist, working as a singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress across eight studio albums and numerous singles. Her prolific output and commercial reach saw her sell over 20 million records worldwide, cementing her influence on the R&B landscape.
