Mýa Marie Harrison was born in Washington D.C. and developed her artistic foundation through childhood training in ballet, jazz, and tap dance. She launched her career as a dancer on BET's Teen Summit before signing with University Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Her self-titled debut album arrived in 1998, introducing the world to her distinctive voice and style through the hit single "It's All About Me," which climbed into the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100.
