Nicolette Larson
About
Nicolette Larson was an American singer who rose to prominence in the late 1970s through her acclaimed work with Neil Young. Born on July 17, 1952, she passed away on December 16, 1997. Her breakthrough came with her 1978 rendition of Young's "Lotta Love," which reached No. 1 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and climbed to No. 8 on the pop singles chart. This success was built on her earlier collaboration with Young, when she contributed vocals to his 1977 album "Comes a Time" after being invited to Nashville by the legendary musician. Her distinctive voice and interpretive gifts made her a natural fit for the folk-rock and country-influenced material that defined her career.
Larson's success with "Lotta Love" was followed by four additional adult contemporary hits, two of which also charted on the pop singles list, establishing her as a significant voice in mainstream music. By 1985, she redirected her artistic focus toward country music, charting six times on the US country singles chart. Her venture into country yielded her only top-40 country hit, "That's How You Know When Love's Right," a duet with Steve Wariner that showcased her versatility across genres. Throughout her career, Larson demonstrated a gift for interpreting compelling material and brought warmth and authenticity to every performance, leaving an enduring mark on the music she touched.
