Noel Paul Stookey, known professionally as Paul, was born December 30, 1937, and became one of the defining voices of 1960s American folk music as a founding member of Peter, Paul and Mary alongside Peter Yarrow and Mary Travers. The trio emerged during the height of the folk music revival, creating one of the era's most celebrated and influential ensembles. Stookey brought his talents as both a singer-songwriter and performer to the group, contributing original compositions and extended monologs that enriched their live performances and studio recordings. He passed away in 2025, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of artistic contribution to one of folk music's most iconic groups.
