Peter O. Phillips, known to the world as Pete Rock, is an American record producer, DJ, and rapper who emerged as one of the most influential figures in hip hop production. Rising to prominence in the early 1990s as one half of the critically acclaimed duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth, he helped define the sound of East Coast hip hop during that transformative decade. Early in his career, Pete Rock became particularly renowned for his innovative remix work, establishing himself as a master of sonic reconstruction.
