About

Peter Gabriel came to prominence as the original frontman of the legendary rock band Genesis before embarking on a solo career in 1975. His breakthrough moment arrived swiftly with the hit debut single "Solsbury Hill," establishing him as a compelling artist in his own right. Over the following years, Gabriel built an impressive discography with four successful studio albums, developing a distinctive style that blended rock sensibilities with innovative production and thoughtful songwriting. His willingness to push artistic boundaries and experiment with new sounds set the stage for even greater achievements to come.

Gabriel's fifth studio album, So (1986), became his best-selling release and a defining moment in his career, achieving triple platinum status in the UK and five times platinum certification in the US. The album's standout single, "Sledgehammer," became a cultural phenomenon, winning a record nine MTV Awards at the 1987 MTV Video Music Awards and earning the distinction of being the most played music video of all time on MTV according to a 2011 Time report. Beyond his commercial success in popular music, Gabriel has also scored film soundtracks and composed music for humanitarian projects, including Birdy (1985), Passion (1989), OVO (2000), and Long Walk Home (2002), demonstrating his commitment to using his artistry for meaningful purposes and cementing his legacy as a truly innovative force in modern music.
