Regina Belle

About

Regina Belle was an American singer-songwriter and soul artist who launched her career in the mid-1980s, drawing on her classical training in opera at the Manhattan School of Music. Born in Englewood, New Jersey, Belle quickly established herself as a distinctive voice blending soul, jazz, and gospel influences. She achieved significant success with her singles "Baby Come to Me" (1989) and "Make It Like It Was" (1990), but it was her collaborations with fellow artist Peabo Bryson that would define much of her career. Regina Belle passed away in 2024. Her powerful vocal delivery and emotional depth made her a sought-after duet partner throughout her artistic life.

Belle's most celebrated work came through her partnership with Bryson on several memorable recordings, most notably "A Whole New World," the main theme from Disney's animated film Aladdin (1992), which earned the pair a Grammy Award. The duo also recorded "Without You" for the 1987 film Leonard Part 6, and "I Just Can't Imagine." Beyond her work with Bryson, Belle demonstrated her versatility by performing "Far Longer than Forever" with Jeffrey Osborne for the animated film The Swan Princess, a performance that earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song in 1995. Her artistry left a lasting impression on popular music and film, showcasing the enduring power of beautifully crafted duets.
