Roger Waters

About

George Roger Waters was an English singer-songwriter, musician, and political activist who co-founded the legendary rock band Pink Floyd in 1965 as bassist. Following the departure of the band's principal songwriter Syd Barrett in 1968, Waters emerged as Pink Floyd's principal lyricist, co-lead vocalist, and conceptual leader, a role he maintained until his departure in 1985. Waters passed away in 2023. His innovative approach to rock music helped define the progressive sound of the 1970s, blending intricate musicianship with deeply introspective and socially conscious lyrics that resonated with audiences worldwide.

Waters' creative legacy is defined by Pink Floyd's groundbreaking concept albums, including "The Dark Side of the Moon" (1973), "Wish You Were Here" (1975), "Animals" (1977), "The Wall" (1979), and "The Final Cut" (1983), works that achieved international success and fundamentally shaped progressive rock. Following his departure from Pink Floyd, Waters continued to create meaningful solo work with studio albums such as "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking" (1984), "Radio K.A.O.S." (1987), "Amused to Death" (1992), and "Is This the Life We Really Want?" (2017). His contributions to music earned him induction into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005, cementing his place as one of rock music's most influential and visionary artists.
