About

Chief Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr., known professionally as Skepta, is a Nigerian-British grime MC, rapper, record producer, fashion designer, film director, and DJ from Tottenham, London. Born on September 19, 1982, Skepta first emerged from the Meridian Crew, a Tottenham-based grime collective, where he initially worked as a DJ before transitioning to MC-ing. In 2005, alongside his younger brother Jme, he briefly joined Roll Deep before becoming a founding member of Boy Better Know, the influential collective that would define his career trajectory and establish him as a central figure in the North London grime scene.

Skepta's legacy in grime is cemented through his prolific work as both an artist and producer, with his contributions helping shape the sound and culture of the genre. One of his most memorable moments came through his clash with fellow MC Devilman for the video release Lord of the Mics 2, which stands as one of the biggest clashes in grime history. Beyond his work as a recording artist, Skepta has expanded his creative reach into film direction and fashion design, demonstrating a multifaceted approach to artistic expression. Through his label Más Tiempo, co-run with Jammer, and his consistent presence across multiple creative disciplines, Skepta has solidified his influence as a pioneering force in grime music.
