About

Tommy Tutone emerged as a power pop band in San Francisco in 1978, founded by lead singer and rhythm guitarist Tommy Heath, alongside Jim Keller and Terry Nails. Heath had grown up across Philadelphia, Texas, and Montana before relocating to San Francisco during the Summer of Love. The band quickly made an impression on the early 1980s music scene, releasing their debut single "Angel Say No" in 1980, which climbed into the top 40. Their rising momentum earned them the opportunity to open for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during the legendary tour for Damn the Torpedoes, establishing Tommy Tutone as a formidable presence in the power pop movement.

Tommy Tutone's legacy is forever anchored by their 1981 breakthrough hit "867-5309/Jenny," an infectious power pop anthem that peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and became an indelible fixture in popular culture. This single represents the band's finest moment, capturing the exuberant spirit and melodic prowess that defined early-'80s power pop. While the song remains their most recognizable achievement, it stands as a testament to the band's ability to craft memorable hooks and energetic performances that resonated with audiences and solidified their place in rock and roll history.
