Wendy James is an English singer and songwriter who emerged as the dynamic lead voice of the pop rock band Transvision Vamp, a group that captured the spirit of late 1980s alternative music. With her distinctive vocal presence and songwriting sensibility, James helped define the sound of that era through the band's releases, including their debut album Pop Art in 1988, followed by Velveteen in 1989 and Little Magnets Versus the Bubble of Babble in 1991. Her work with Transvision Vamp established her as a notable figure in pop rock, setting the stage for a multifaceted career that would extend far beyond her initial breakthrough.

Beyond her work with Transvision Vamp, James has demonstrated remarkable range through collaborations with some of rock and roll's most respected figures, working alongside Elvis Costello, James Williamson from Iggy and the Stooges, Lenny Kaye from the Patti Smith Group, and James Sclavunos from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
