Some bands do reunion tours. Some bands release “greatest hits” packages every six months and call it a career. Then there are The Rolling Stones.
At an age where most people are arguing with their thermostat or trying to remember why they walked into the kitchen, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood just announced a brand new studio album called Foreign Tongues, arriving July 10. Let that sink in for a second. The Stones are still making records while half the music industry is busy recycling songs that were already overplayed in 1998.
The new album follows 2023’s Hackney Diamonds and reportedly features appearances from Paul McCartney, Robert Smith of The Cure, Steve Winwood, Chad Smith, and even contributions from the late Charlie Watts. Because apparently the Rolling Stones looked at the concept of slowing down and decided that sounded boring as hell.
The first songs released from the project, “In The Stars” and “Rough and Twisted,” already have fans buzzing. “Rough and Twisted” especially sounds like the kind of dirty, swaggering blues rock the Stones built their empire on decades ago. No nostalgia act. No polished museum piece. Just a band that still sounds alive.
That’s the thing people miss about legendary artists. Creativity does not expire at 40. Or 50. Or 80 apparently.
