How We Select Our Music

Each month, Masters Radio adds 40 new songs to our stream. Each one from artists who first rose to prominence 20 years ago or more, or from members of bands that did.

Every artist or band is limited to one song at a time across our platform. We mess up sometimes, but we try our best to have only one per artist across our channels at any time. Once added, that song stays for two months, moving from the current month’s list to the prior month’s. After two months, it rotates out to make room for new additions.

We source music from a variety of public outlets and licensed channels, purchasing all tracks for streaming. In some cases, artists provide music directly to Masters Radio ahead of official release. To maintain a focus on current creativity, we only feature songs released within the past 12 months.

Each song may appear on the stream only once, and artists may not have multiple songs active across both channels at the same time. While we work hard to enforce this, occasional overlaps may occur, and when they do, we correct them quickly.

When more than 40 eligible songs are available in a given month, selections are made by our independent Masters Radio committee. Decisions are based on:

  • Overall quality
  • Song length and flow within the stream
  • Listener experience and replay value

Simply put, if a track does not feel like something our Members will want to hear, it does not make the cut. We also generally do not include reissues or updated recordings of past efforts. We will include covers from artists as long as the new recordings are from a Masters artist.

We represent a wide range of genres. While we do not program traditional country music, we do include crossover artists whose sound reaches beyond the genre.

Every song on every channel is free to listen to, forever. That is the Masters Radio promise. If you want to help the artists you hear get paid fairly, learn about our Founding Members Program.
