About
Owen Paul is a Scottish singer who burst onto the UK music scene in the mid-1980s with an ear for infectious pop sensibilities. His breakthrough came with the 1986 hit single "My Favourite Waste of Time," a charming cover of Marshall Crenshaw's original composition that climbed to No. 3 on the charts. Following this promising start, Paul released several singles and his debut album As It Is, establishing himself as a distinctive voice in the pop landscape of that era.
Despite his initial success, Paul's early career was disrupted by a falling-out with his record label that led him to step away from the music industry for 15 years. When he returned to recording, he demonstrated remarkable resilience and creativity, releasing About Time in 2002 and subsequently working as a backing vocalist and vocal arranger on Mike and the Mechanics' 2004 album Rewired. His later work included About Time II in 2014 and the stripped-down Acoustic 80s in 2017, showcasing his enduring passion for songcraft and his ability to reimagine his artistry across different musical contexts.
