Billy Gibbons

About

William Frederick Gibbons was an American rock musician whose career spanned decades of influential guitar work, songwriting, and vocals. He began performing with Moving Sidewalks in the late 1960s, recording the album Flash in 1969 and earning the distinction of opening four dates for the legendary Jimi Hendrix Experience. In late 1969, Gibbons formed ZZ Top with fellow musicians, releasing their debut album ZZ Top's First Album in early 1971. This marked the beginning of what would become one of rock music's most enduring partnerships. Gibbons passed away in 2024, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that shaped rock music for generations.

As ZZ Top's guitarist, primary songwriter, and vocalist, Gibbons became instrumental in defining the band's signature sound and visual identity. Beyond his foundational work with ZZ Top, he pursued a solo career in later years, releasing his debut solo album Perfectamundo in 2015, demonstrating his continued creative vitality. His influence extended beyond music into television and popular culture, with notable appearances including a recurring role on the series Bones. At the 40th Blues Music Awards in May 2019, one of his albums was recognized as a Blues Rock Album of distinction, cementing his status as a respected figure in blues-influenced rock music and a guitarist whose contributions to the genre remain deeply valued by musicians and fans alike.
