CROSSOVER

Crossover is a term applied to musical works or performers who appeal to different types of audience, for example (especially in the United States) by appearing on two or more of the record charts which track differing musical styles or genres If the second chart combines genres, such as a “Hot 100” list, the work is not a crossover.

The question must be asked then if this genre of music is also defined as “funeral music?” Jim Morrison sang “Break on through to the other side.” Could this be considered crossover music? We think NOT! Crossover music in the Masters realm refers to artists normally known for music in one genre now having a hit in another genre. However, we don’t think that Bing Crosby’s version of “Hey Jude” should qualify. Anywhere. At any time. Sorry Fab 4. We are truly sorry.
