Maxwell is an American singer/songwriter, record producer, and multi- instrumentalist who is one of the few people credited as an originator of the “neo soul” movement. In 2019, Maxwell was granted the Lifetime Achievement Award for “his innovative contributions in the music industry” by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and Congressional Black Caucus.
