Flock of Seagulls

Many say imitation is the sincerest form flattery. You could say that having your songs used in TV commercials is the ultimate form of flattery; especially if it pays decent royalties.

You may have noticed that there are quite a few TV commercials featuring the Flock of Seagulls song "I Ran (So Far Away)." One commercial features a flock of actual seagulls singing as flock of seagulls. This band is associated with the 80’s with so many as they reminisce about their musical memories. The 80’s are also famous for having many “hair bands.” Oddly enough, two of the Flock’s founders Mike Score and Frank Maudsley were hairdressers. The band is also part of the first set of bands airing on what was then the new and innovative MTV network.

You may have noticed that there are quite a few TV commercials featuring the Flock of Seagulls song “I Ran (So Far Away).” One commercial features a flock of actual seagulls singing as flock of seagulls.

When the band was not running so far away there were wishing as in their other hit “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” which was performed as another MTV Music video. Another famous song of theirs was Space Age Love Song. Go to many 80’s nights events, you will likely hear some of these songs.

Like many bands, they are back in the spotlight with a new album (Ascension), this time with help from the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Flock of Seagulls collaborated with the orchestra to present their songs in a new light.

The flock has made a tremendous comeback with this album when it debuted and peaked at #8 on the Billboard Classical Albums chart for the week of 21 July 2018 and at #29 on the UK Independent Albums chart for the week of 13 July 2018. Although some of the band members have less of their hair, they are still going strong.
